Starting Equipment: The Big Sword
You gain +1 SWORD for each Swordbearer Template.
A: Nothing Without-
"It was much too big to be called a sword: Massive, thick, huge, and far too large."
You have a big sword. You've trained since birth to wield it, and can wield nothing else. No other weapon, nor shield, nor tool. Your ancestors tell you it's sentient, but you've never heard it speak. It was sent through your family from the depths of time. Without it, you are nothing.
Your STR is replaced by SWORD, and your save is 6 + SWORD. You can wear up to 10 items, but can carry nothing except the sword. It must be wielded in both hands, and deals [Templates]d8 + [SWORD Mod] damage. Nothing can destroy it.
B: What Was Promised
"Feed... Me..."
The sword speaks to you, the one and only time. It tells you it is hungry. It can now devour any smaller weapon, gaining its powers. Eating a weapon takes 10 minutes. If two bonuses overlap or conflict, the more powerful one is used.
C: Wielder of Renown
"It was huge! Sized for a giant! Or, or bigger! Blade: that's what they call him! Or, was he a him?"
You are famous! Every warrior has heard of you in advance, treating you with respect and fear. Each of them will grant you one minor favour.
Everyone knows the name of the sword, and your epithet (which must reference the sword). Nobody knows your name.
D: Brinkman
"NEVER BACK DOWN!"
You can immediately defeat any single foe. Afterwards you must Save. If you succeed, reduce your SWORD by d6 points, permanently. If you fail, choose:
- Die dramatically.
- Lay down your big sword to disappear into the annals of history.
Whichever you choose, the big sword falls to the ground and pierces it. After one year, a shrine will be established around it, which attracts a crowd of 2d6 warriors each day.
